Who's on Alive?

Pete Best

Pete hosts the weekday breakfast show, from 6am till 9am, with a bright and breezy style. His Irish humour shines through and he's won a special place in many listeners' hearts through his varied and entertaining approach to life. Around 8.30am every weekday, he introduces a well known local or national character bringing a 'Thought for the Day'.

Mark Smith

Mark is the Chairman of Alive Christian Media and the station licence holder. He's the Pastor of the River of Life Church, a local independent evangelical Church and the Principal of the River of Life Christian School, in Dumfries.

His regular weekday morning programmes from 9am till 12noon have a magazine style, with interviews, reviews and discussions, as well as music to help the day go well. He's joined by his wife, Helen, at around 10.30am for 'story time'. This year, Helen is reading accounts of Christian heroes, from Dave and Netta Jackson's books.

Nigel Kenny

Nigel is a local solicitor and takes great delight in digging up some musical gems from the past - artists like 2nd Chapter of Acts, Honeytree, Larry Norman, Chuck Girard & Keith Green, from the 70s and 80's.

His Thursday night 6pm slot attracts many listeners recovering memories from the past and enjoying forgotten treasures. He ventures into Sundays too, with a Sunday evening show on 20th August.

John Edwards

John's background was of drugs, alcohol and a life on the streets. God dramatically and wonderfully transformed him out of the gutter and he now reaches out to literally hundreds of people with the life-changing love of God. He's established several rehab centres and locally is at the heart of the Walking Free Centre, near Kirkcudbright and the Lochbank Trust, based in Dumfries.

John's Irish upbringing and celtic streak in his blood, comes out through his choice of music for his early afternoon slots. Lots of fascinating testimonies and intriguing stories pervade John's programmes.

Family Matters

Mark and Helen Smith host this programme which focuses on family issues: marriage, parenting, the extended family, etc. They've been married for over 26 years and have 5 children aged 15 - 23. They're pastors of a local Church and believe God has the solutions for even the most impossible situations.

David Currie

David is deeply loved by listeners. His friendly and sensitive style is appreciated by many. David was one of the founders of Alive Radio and he's a popular singer/songwriter, having written and recorded several CDs.

John Fisher

John works in mental health and is a father of six (not that there is any link!). He's known and loved for late night evening shows, involving 80's and 90's Christian rock music. However this year he's adjusting his style to include a lighter lunchtime spot, with a friendly, breezy approach to make lunchtimes pure delight!

Bill Murphy

Bill presents a unique programme explaining Christianity in a way that's really easy to understand. He includes lots of life stories from local people who have experienced God in their own lives and looks at the role of the Church in helping people to find God and live lives close to Him.

Sheila Notman

Wife and mum, Sheila presents some of our drive time shows and other slots, bringing a relevant, lively and bright approach to life and work. Sheila also teaches English as a Second Language in Dumfries.

Steve McCorkindale

Steve McC is unique; you'll never find a broadcaster like him - zany, energetic and totally upbeat. Steve hosts shows with a particular appeal to kids, but suitable for all.

Colin Park

Colin presents a special blend of country & western/Gaither gospel music and his own comments and experiences. A real hit with Southern Gospel and C&W fans!

Bethany Smith

Bethany presents an interesting late night shows, appealing especially to teenage and youth audiences. She has studio guests, comments and views and some real scoop interviews with bands like Eisley & David Crowder.

Peter Smith

Peter, in his late teens produces some real gems in his shows which aim to find some more unusual tracks. With studio guests and some novel ways to get involved, Peter's a must-listen for everyone under 30!

Nathan Smith

Nathan is, as always, a master of subtle humour. Studio guests and lots of interesting music make Nate's shows fascinating.

Adrian Leslie

Adrian normally sells financial products, but he's found a new vocation as accomplished radio presenter. His warm and friendly character shines through his shows - a real feel good style to warm the heart.

Euan MacLeod

Father of five, Euan's work as Operations Director of a national nursing homes company, takes him the length and breadth of the UK, from Aberdeen to Plymouth. He's a U2 fan, with a close affinity for Runrig and presents late evening shows with a unique eclectic mix of rock and celtic music.

John Donnelly

Well known local builder and Pastor of Glenaros Christian Fellowship, John brings a spiritually down to earth-ness which warms the heart and points to God. He's always got an encouraging word to bring to every situation and presents evening shows appealing to a wide audience.

Dave Gurney

Dave is Emergency Planning Officer with Dumfries and Galloway Council. He's a keen music buff, both in terms of listening to and making music. He's the schedule co-ordinator with Alive Radio and contributes his own brand of music-based, mid evening show appealing to people with contemporary, slightly rocky tastes.

Gilbert McGill

A 'new boy' for 2006, known to many as Gibbie, Gilbert joined the list of presenters as part of the Gideon Ministry slot during week 1 and enjoys providing an easy listening brand of music. Following a good response to his first programme he takes to the air again on Sunday 13 August between 1200 and 3.00pm. He sees his second showing as an opportunity to develop a more open style.

Annette Richards

Wife and mum, Annette also works with the Befriending Project, in Dumfries and presents a warm and welcoming show, with guests and items of topical interest. Her calming Irish voice brings hope and a healthy balance view of life. Don't miss her interesting shows!

Duke Miller

Duke is Associate Pastor of the River of Life Church in Dumfries and hails originally from Florida. He's married to Morag, another Alive presenter, and they have four children. Duke's background was in the American music industry and his shows are packed with interesting bits and pieces about Christian music around the world.
